Sharon Johal is an extremely unique and multifaceted individual with broad audience appeal who strives to make positive influence through her storytelling as an Actor, Creator, Designer, Ambassador, Writer, Host and work as a Human Rights Advocate. Fresh off the back of playing a role in Zac Efron’s new US film Ricky Stanicky and Charlie Hunman‘s US Apple TV series (after 4+ years on Australia’s longest running show Neighbours) and coming second on the highest rated show in Australia The Block, Sharon has successfully cemented her place in the media industry as a talented professional actor and valuable media personality.
A determined and hardworking creative, Sharon has found success in her acting, presenting, writing, podcasting and human rights work by combining her innate talents with sheer perseverance. She continues to champion diversity on screen, on her own Podcast and is an in demand host, MC, panel speaker and diversity/inclusivity consultant. Sharon prides herself on fostering positive change and making a difference in whatever she undertakes with high value and broad audience appeal.
ACTING
As an actor, Sharon's breakout role was portraying Dipi Rebecchi on Australia’s globally recognised iconic television show, Neighbours. Over 4 years Sharon was able to demonstrate her versatility and range in playing a lead protagonist encompassing a tortured individual, sex-symbol and romantic lead, maternal/nurturing wife and mother, relatable and loveable woman-next-door, fierce business owner with moral compass, and empathetic and funny best- friend all within the same role, cementing her as one of the shows most celebrated and polarizing characters. Sharon has also stepped behind the camera to direct several episodes as well as consult on scripts. Sharon's other TV appearances include Winners & Losers and Hartman’s Solution and has also appeared in a number of high-grossing Bollywood films including UnIndian, Tu Mera 22, Meh Thera 22 in addition to her most recent roles playing a CNN anchor on US film Ricky Stanicky featuring Zac Efron and John Cena, a detective on Australian feature film Girl at the Window featuring Vince Colosimo and Radha Mitchell and a gangster brothel owner in the cult Apple+ TV series, Shantaram featuring Charlie Hunman.
WRITING
Sharon has also self penned articles for the wider community and contributed on a range of societal issues including but not limited to politics, women’s issues, fertility, law, racism and immigration in reputable national and global publications including Stellar, The Guardian, Mamamia, PopSugar, and has been interviewed by Vogue, WHO, Body & SoulRefinery29, TV Week, Today, The Morning Show, Domain, Sydney Morning Herald, the Herald Sun, The Advertiser, The West Australian, SBS News, A Current Affair as well gracing the covers of various magazines. Sharon has also been a guest on all major radio station shows and a plethora of podcasts including No Filter, KIC and Fitbet.
HOSTING
Sharon has hosted, presented and spoken at many events both public and private for brands, organisations, music festivals and panels and more. Sharon also created her own podcast “The Real Ones” during lockdown which gained significant traction and country-wide media coverage due to Sharon's unique ability to delve into complex and deep subjects. The podcast showcases Sharon's warmth, intellect and skills as an authentic story finder and teller with guests opening up to her on topics for the first time, which as a result garnered national headlines.
DESIGN
Sharon and her husband Ankur came second on the most recent season of The Block, Australia’s highest rated show of the season. Their home “Gunyah” was the largest property (5 bedroom, 4 bathroom, 6 car garage over 10 acres) ever built, created and styled in The Block’s 16 year history, with Sharon & Ankur the only team with no renovation experience prior to being cast on the show and the most diverse couple ever to enter. Sharon’s design style was applauded for her non confirmative/cookiecutter unique style that told a story through space, colour, texture, design balanced with the brief of “country” with opulence and practicality.
FASHION & BRAND WORK
Sharon has been the face of fashion brand Mossimo and an ambassador for many clothing brands and modelling campaigns.
Sharon is a key fixture at Australian fashion weeks/festivals and is a staunch advocate of inclusivity in fashion as a woman of colour with curves creating relatable and engaging content that her loyal follows have come to love and trust. Sharon has worked with brands on many levels, including but not limited to, Bulgari, Loreal, Penfolds, Toni Maticevski, Foxtel, Porsche, The National Gallery of Victoria, Channel 9, a Channel 10, Ovolo, Crown, Mercedes, Mecca, Melbourne Fashion Week, Carla Zampatti, Cricket Australia, Mariam Sediq, Levi’s, Witchery, Lexus, The Star, Foxtel and more.
